According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), COVID-19 belongs to epidemic febrile diseases, for which TCM has been proved to be effective in its prevention and treatment. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the President of GMU, Prof. Wang Xinhua, head of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Committee’s TCM Prevention and Control Expert Team for COVID-19, has developed a formula entitled “Wuzhi Fangguan Fang” to remove the dampness which causes the illness. The formula was widely applied in Guangdong, Hubei and in overseas Chinese communities. The in vitro experiment of the formula showed that it could contain the coronavirus (HCoV-229E).

In order to promote "Wuzhi Fangguan Fang" in household prevention for COVID-19, Prof. Wang Xinhua's team transferred the formula to Guangzhou Xiangxue Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The trial production of the herbal formula entitled "Yuekang No.1" was carried out in February this year, which has industrialized now, reaping good social and economic benefits.

In order to promote the development of TCM education, training more excellent talents specialized in Integrated TCM and Western Medicine, Professor Wang Xinhua's team decided to donate the 1 million Yuan gained from the technology transfer of the herbal formula, to Nanshan Education Foundation in GMU to set up the "TCM Education Fund", which will surely have a positive impact on technology transfer and commercialization for scientists.
