18th International Alliance of Urolithiasis Endourology Workshop Held at Guangzhou Medical University

From June 27 to 30, 2024, the 18th International Alliance of Urolithiasis IAU Endourology Workshop took place at the Academic Exchange Center of Guangzhou Medical UniversityGMU. This event was organized by the IAU and the Guangdong Medical Association, and co-hosted by GMU,,the First Affiliated Hospital of GMU  , and the Pan-African Urological Surgeons' Association.

 

 

This workshop attracted over 120 doctors from 42 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Thailand, Poland, Russia, and India. Tang Xiaoping, Secretary of the Party Committee of GUM; Huang Jinkun, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of GUM; Professor Zeng Guohua, Vice President and Head of the Urology Medical Center, along with other leaders and experts from home and abroad, attended the opening ceremony.

 

 

Most participants of this IAU workshop came from key member countries of the Belt and Road Initiative. The entire conference was broadcast live online, achieving a total of 48,000 views and over 5,000 likes. The workshop featured 13 urological surgery demonstrations, showcasing the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques in the field of urology. Additionally, the workshop hosted 23 specialized lectures on urology, with 31 domestic and international experts leading the sessions and discussions, providing participants with a broad platform for exchange and learning. Renowned scholars  from both domestic and international backgrounds  gathered, creating a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere ,making every participant feel immersed in a sea of knowledge, enjoying this academic feast.

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the surgical demonstrations, Professor Zeng Guohua showcased his innovative Super-mini-PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) technique and introduced a flexible ureteroscope developed by a Chinese company. These advancements were met with high praise by attending experts.

Professor Kemal Sarica, President of the IAU, gave high praise of the technology, stating, "Professor Zengs surgical demonstration is impressive and represents a world-leading level of technical excellence." Dr. Fadi, a urologist from Jordan, noted that China now boasts many new urological technologies, particularly at the Urology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of GMU, where the treatment and training programs are highly standardized.

 

 

 

 

   At the closing ceremony, Vice President Li Jianhua of GUM extended her congratulations to the conference organizers and participants on the success of the event. She also presented completion certificates to the trainees She remarked, "The academic professionalism and international impact of this workshop have far exceeded our expectations. We look forward to hosting the next Workshop at Guangzhou Medical University."
