From November 8th to 9th, The 2024 GISU International Biomedical Froum and Guangzhou Cancer Conference, co-hosted by Guangzhou Medical University(GMU) and the Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities Alliance(GISU), co-organized by the Guangdong Society of Thoracic Diseases, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of GMU and the GMU-GIBH Joint School of Life Sciences, was held at the Panyu Campus of GMU. More than 400 experts, scholars, and teacher and student representatives from home and abroad participated in the conference.

Professor He Jianxing, director of the National Center for Respiratory Medicine and from GMU, gave a report.
This academic report had two sessions: keynote speeches and theme reports. In the keynote speech session, seven experts and scholars, including professor Scott Bowman, executive chair of the GISU, professor Fan Xianqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and professor Tak Wah Mak, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States and from the University of Toronto, delivered special speeches, resepectivly. The theme reports had three topics: regulation of tumor cell fate determination, tumor metastasis and immunity, and tumor translational research. The scholars focused on themes such as the mechanism of tumor occurrence and development, cutting-edge treatment methods, clinical diagnosis and treatment. The frontier technologies and research trends in the field of oncology were comprehensively discussed from multiple dimensions and from basic to clinical aspects.
The Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities Alliance(GISU) was established in December 2018. Since its establishment, Guangzhou's international sister-city network spread across major cities in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and Africa, and the alliance has promoted the integration and development of sister cities and alliance universities. After more than five years of operation and development, its international influence and status of have been continuously enhanced, and its global "circle of friends" has been expanding. The alliance currently has 27 members, covering 21 cities in 18 countries on five continents, including Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. The alliance focuses on building four brand activities, namely the "Annual Meeting/Council and Presidents' Roundtable Forum", "Joint Scientific Research Projects", "Digital College", and "Urban Innovation Student Entrepreneurship Competition", to deepen exchanges and interactions in education, science and technology, culture, and youth among sister cities.
