In November , 2024, the Department of Obstetrics at the Third Affiliated Hospital of GMU hosted 19 undergraduate nursing students from Macau’s Kiang Wu Nursing College for a two-week professional internship.
During the internship, students actively participated in bedside shift handovers and other practical tasks, gaining insights into nursing care for various conditions and diagnostic methods. They also honed their communication skills with patients and learned to deliver effective health education. Additionally, the department’s achievements in research and public health education inspired the students' creativity and deepened their professional identity.
At the wrap-up meeting, the students shared their takeaways, recalling many "first experiences," such as witnessing the birth of new life, bathing newborns, and confidently conducting health education for postpartum patients. They noted that the internship not only enhanced their clinical nursing skills but also offered them a profound understanding of the miracle of life and the essence of nursing. They expressed their commitment to furthering their studies and using their knowledge to help those in need.
Since 2008, the collaboration between Macau’s Kiang Wu Nursing College and the Department of Obstetrics at the Third Affiliated Hospital of GMU has provided Macau nursing students with professional internships across the department’s three key units: the general obstetrics wards, delivery rooms, and mother-baby units. This joint training program ensures the quality of obstetrics nursing education and contributes valuable insights to nursing education reform and research within the Greater Bay Area.
Internships at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University Hengqin Hospital
Since April 2024, the First Affiliated Hospital of GMU Hengqin Hospital has hosted two batches of third-year undergraduate nursing students from Macau’s Kiang Wu Nursing College for a two-week professional internship .

Since signing the agreement with Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau on February 20, 2024, Hengqin Hospital has received 16 nursing students from the college for professional internship. The hospital adheres to the concept of promoting the mutual integration and interconnection of high-quality medical resources and facilitating the development of medical and health undertakings in the cooperation area, providing solid support for the nursing students' professional theory and practical training, helping them grow into outstanding nursing professionals and injecting new vitality into the medical and health undertakings in the Greater Bay Area.
