As an attachment of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, the First Clinical School(FCS )was founded in 2004, located on the bank of Pearl River. The department covers an area of more than 10, 000 square meters. In addition, it has Haiyin Branch with a building area of more than 20 000 square meters. The school mainly undertakes undergraduate courses of clinical medicine (including the Nanshan School) and Traditional Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine, with 18 medical technology departments and 23 teaching and research sections including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and pediatrics.
Currently, clinical medicine is held as a multidisciplinary programme at master's and doctor’s degree level and Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine is held as a multidisciplinary programme at master's degree level. By now, there are 20 PhD supervisors and 115 supervisors for Master degree candidates. Clinical medicine is a national featured discipline while medical laboratory is a featured discipline at provincial level. Internal medicine has been recognized as a national distinguished programme, and a model programme for bilingual learning which boasts national teaching team. The programmes of diagnostics, internal medicine, and surgery are listed as provincial distinguished programmes.
In addition to programmes at undergraduate level, the School offers continuing education, postgraduate education, and post-doc training. FCS owns one state key discipline and specialty, one state key laboratory, six provincial key disciplines, one state key discipline of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 3 provincial key laboratories.
