GMU and IAU Deliver Urological Training in Türkiye and Azerbaijan

Date: 2026-10-16

The Overseas Medical Training Center (Türkiye) of Guangzhou Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with the International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU), recently delivered specialized urological surgery training and academic exchanges in Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

Professor Zeng Guohua, a GMU urological surgery expert who serves as IAU Co-Chair and Director of the GMU Overseas Medical Training Center (Türkiye), and Professor Kemal Sarica, IAU Co-Chair and Deputy Director of the Center, took part in two IAU symposia in Istanbul and Baku. The expert team provided professional training and shared cutting-edge clinical techniques with urologists from multiple countries, drawing more than 100 physicians from Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Egypt, and Middle Eastern countries.

The Istanbul symposium, held on September 9, 2026 at the GMU Overseas Medical Training Center (Türkiye), focused on minimally invasive treatment for urolithiasis, with particular emphasis on the standardized application of Suction Mini PCNL(SMP).

From September 11 to 12, 2026, the IAU hosted the Baku symposium under the theme "Current Status and Future Directions of Urolithiasis: Innovation, Evidence, and Controversies," which covered percutaneous nephrolithotomy, flexible ureteroscopy, and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Professor Zeng demonstrated flexible ureteroscopy assisted by a flexible negative-pressure suction ureteral access sheath, showcasing GMU's advanced minimally invasive techniques.

The training reflects GMU's ongoing efforts to share its clinical expertise and strengthen international partnerships.
