I. MBBS Program Overview
GMU is one of the universities accredited by the Ministry of Education of China to admit international students to the English-medium MBBS program, and has been recruiting students since September 2010. The program aims to educate international medical talents with solid medical knowledge, standard clinical skills and good professional qualities, and preliminary clinical competence, who are capable of adapting to the development of global medicine and needs of socio-economic development. The program also pays attention to some special requirements of certain countries where the majority of the students are from.
The length of study is 6 years which includes one year internship, and is awarded the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in English.
II. Curriculum Provision
Chinese Culture Courses: General Introduction to China, Chinese Language, etc.
Basic Medical Courses: Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Human Parasitology, Functional Experiment, Medical Genetics, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, General Practice, Medical Communication, etc.
Clinical Medicine Courses: Diagnostics, Imaging Diagnostics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Stomatology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc.
III. Eligibility
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate. For residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who immigrated to foreign countries and are applying as international students, the applicant should have foreign nationality and hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years. In addition, more than 2 years of actual residence in a foreign country has been recorded in the last 4 years (ending on April 30, 2026).
2. Applicants should be 18-25 years old with a high school diploma or above.
3. Applicants should be physically and mentally healthy, and meet the medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China.
4. Applicants should be friendly to China, with excellent grades and good conduct, without any record of violation of school rules and regulations, nor any record of public security punishment or criminal record.
5. Transcript requirements (meet one of these requirements)
i. High school transcript: GPA ≥ 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) or its equivalent (the subjects studies in high school must include physics/ mathematics, biology, and chemistry)
ii. GCE A-level: all subjects should be C or above
iii. Indian State Board Examination: the mark secured of all subjects/ the maximum mark of all the subjects ≥ 85%, CBSE ≥ 70%, NEET score ≥ 300 (NEET taken from 2024 to 2026)
6. English level
i. Native or official language in English
ii. Non-native English speakers: IELTS ≥ 6 (minimum 5.0 in each), TOEFL ≥ 85 (minimum 15 per section) or Duolingo ≥115
iii. Proof of English instruction from attended high school
IV. Charging Standard
1. Tuition: RMB 40,000/academic year;
2. Accommodation fee: Panyu campus: RMB 6,000/person/academic year; Yuexiu campus: RMB 4,000/person/academic year
3. Other fees including textbook costs, board expenses, medical expenses, utility bills, drinking water charges, internet charges, medical insurance expenses, visa extension expenses, etc. shall be paid accordingly by the international students.
V. Application Time
March 1st, 2026 — August 30th, 2026
Spaces are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. If there are more applications than expected, the deadline might close earlier than scheduled.
VI. Application Documents
Log in International Student Service System (https://gzhmu.at0086.cn/Student) to complete the online application, and upload the required application documents. All documents must be complete, true, and correct in either Chinese or English.
1. GMU Application form for the international students (Automatically formed after online application in system.);
2. Notarized original or translated copies of senior high school graduation diploma. Fresh graduates should provide the original expected graduation certificate issued by their school, and supplement the graduation document when registering;
3. Transcripts
a) Notarized original or translated copies of high school academic transcripts, including courses taken, scores achieved, and clarification of the scoring system;
b) The transcript of the unified standardized examination in the student’s home country or the internationally prevailing standardized examinations (such as A-level, IBDP, etc.);
4. Language certificates such as TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo (applicants whose mother tongue is English are free from the above certificate after getting approved from our school.);
5. Scanned copy of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) transcript;
For specific information about the test content, time, etc., please visit the official website of the CSCA at www.csca.cn. Maths and Chemistry are compulsory subjects;
6. A recommendation letter written by the high school headmaster or teachers (email, phone number and signature should be included.);
7. A study plan written in English or Chinese, with no less than 500 words;
8. Scanned copy of valid passport’s information page;
9. Foreigner’s Physical Examination Record (fill in Chinese or English. The applicant must strictly take all examinations as required by the Form. Forms leaving a blank or absence of suggestion and signature of the doctor or seal of the hospital are invalid. The results are valid for six months.);
10. Non-criminal record within the validity period;
11. English self-introduction video including introduce yourself, explain your understanding of China, the reasons and your expectation for studying at GMU (3-5 minutes, no more than 50M);
12. Financial Guarantee Letter and scanned copies of its supporting documents completed in Chinese or English;
13. Non-fresh graduates are required to provide a resume;
14. Original Authorization to the Guardian (for the applicants under the age of 18 by August 30th, 2026) needs to be notarized with signatures. If not notarized in China, the endorsement of local Chinese Embassy is required.
VII. Review and Admission
The university will review the completeness and authenticity of the applicant’s materials, if necessary, the university will ask the applicant to submit additional materials. The university will accept the students on the basis of merit based on the results and other performances.
1. The pre-admission result is generally announced within one month after the application. Applicants can check the admission result on the system, and applicants must pay the first year’s tuition and hostel fee in advance within the deadline for confirmation; Otherwise, the pre-admission qualification is deemed to be abandoned.
2. Visa Application for Study in China (JW202) are fully electronic from 2023 onwards, and will be sent to the email address that the applicant has filled in on the application system. Please download it from your computer in time.
3. After receiving the Official Admission Notice and Visa Application for Study in China (JW202), applicants shall apply for Study Visa in China to the Chinese Embassy (Consulate General) and other visa agencies with the following materials: Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW202), the original copy and photocopy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner and valid passport.
VIII. Admission Date
Students should register in October 2026, and the specific time shall be subject to the date marked on the Admission Notice.
