GMU Environment/Ecology Enters ESI Global Top 1%

On January 8, Clarivate Analytics released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) statistics, covering the period from January 2015 to October 2025. The data showed that Guangzhou Medical University’s Environment/Ecology discipline entered the global top 1 percent in ESI for the first time, marking a historic breakthrough.

In recent years, the University’s Environment/Ecology discipline has focused on major health issues involving the respiratory system, reproductive system, and tumors, and has carried out in-depth research on environment-related mechanisms, continuously enhancing its research output and academic influence. Over the past decade, the discipline has published a total of 343 papers, received 5,562 citations in total, with an average of 16.22 citations per paper, including one highly cited paper.

To date, the total number of disciplines at the University ranked in the global top 1 percent in ESI has increased to 12. Compared with January 2021, the opening year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the University has added six ESI top 1 percent disciplines during this time, demonstrating steady progress in discipline development and overall research competitiveness.
