Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) has secured 254 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), with total funding reaching 109 million yuan, according to the 2025 review results released on Aug 27.

The approved projects include one Young Scientists Fund (Category A), two Young Scientists Fund (Category B), one Key Program, one Key International Cooperative Program, 115 General Program projects and 134 Young Scientists Fund (Category C) projects.

Both the number of funded projects and the total amount of funding rose compared with the statistics in 2024, placing the university among the country’s leading independent medical institutions in terms of NSFC support. The university’s First Affiliated Hospital received 84 grants, while the Second Affiliated Hospital obtained 32, representing new progress for both.

In recent years, GMU has intensified planning for basic research, improved research facilities, expanded shared platforms and promoted more organized research. In line with national development priorities, the university will strengthen research leadership, reshape research organization, support faculty development, and streamline NSFC funding processes—driving innovation to new heights.
